CHA Certification

I’ve been thinking about how to continue my equine education and thought it would be good to work on adding some head knowledge (and try to squeeze more into my aging melon) to go along with the practical experience of horseback riding.  I purchased the CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association) Composite Manual a couple of months ago and have started going through it. It has some really good information (at least in what I’ve looked at so far), but the manual is only part of the equation. One of my New Years goals (I really don’t set resolutions) is to get my CHA certification and maybe look at getting instructor certified. That being said, the CHA manual is only part of the certification process. It looks like I will need to do an actual horse handling / riding portion for the certification (at multiple levels). I don’t have a problem with that at all – I think it’s a great idea and concept. One issue that I will need to resolve fairly quickly is finding out how, who, where I can get these riding evaluations done. I’m thinking I’ll call the CHA office in the near future to ask a few questions and see if I can find a path to certification.

Would you like to go on my CHA certification journey with me? Check back and I’ll be updating this site with the information that I put together for my own certification process and who knows… maybe some of you will get some valuable insights along the way… I hope so!
